Behind the "Black-White" Tradition of Freshman in the Faculty of Animal Science at Andalas University

Before actively in undergoing lecture routines, freshman are usually required to undergo an orientation period first. The goal is to get them to know the academic and student life in the universities where they study. Most universities throughout Indonesia including Andalas University to wearing black-and-white uniforms in orientation.

No wonder at the beginning of the new semester there were many freshman who used their typical black and white uniforms. Many previous students or seniors can realize that a group of students is their junior or freshman because of the freshman wear typical black and white uniform. It seems that it has become a characteristic of freshman in wearing black and white uniforms in the orientation period.

Black and white uniforms must be compulsory at the beginning of the orientation period. But there is a different policy carried out by faculty of animal science. Although the orientation period is over, freshman from the faculty of animal science are still encouraged to wearing black and white uniforms for 1 semester. The policies carried out by the faculty of animal science are indeed slightly different from other faculty in Andalas University.

Black and white uniforms for 1 semester may be a little difficult for freshman at the faculty of animal science, but that way to be able to distinguish between junior and senior. Other objectives things are to helping freshman to adaptation and socialize with environment, and for making freshman to be  behave friendly and polite.

Even though, freshman in faculty of animal science still wearing black and white uniforms for 1 semester. This is indirectly aimed at making freshman and seniors know each other and can be asked for help if there is something that needs help.
